《红山小孩的智慧》 The Wisdom of the Boy from Redhill
(1st version)
According to a Malay folklore, there was a time in Singapore when the lives of village folks were threatened by swordfishes which swarmed the shores. The villagers' livelihoods were adversely affected as these creatures were a menace to them. A young boy suggested to the Raja (king) to trap these swordfishes with a wall built with banana tree trucks. As a result, they were soon eliminated. Being jealous of the boy's wits, the Raja plotted to kill him. The boy was eventually hunted down and the hill where he stood was smeared with his blood. That was how Bukit Merah (which means Red Hill) got its name. May the boy's wisdom and courage inspire our students to use their talents to impact the lives of others.

Metal Sculptures
Artist-in-School Project
Guided by Chua Boon Kee and Li Feng
This special course gained students an exposure to the process making of welded metal sculptures. Students first drew sketches on paper, and transferred their best designs onto cardboard that turned into a 3-D mockup. These designs were then enhanced by the artists to bring out a unity theme. The designs were further processed digitally and sent for precise metal cutting. Throughout the whole course, students learnt different techniques in creating metal artworks, and had the opportunities to learn using the welding tools with specialist's guidance. They had great fun playing with colours on the actual size sculptures' finishing. On the final lesson, the school's art teachers and students, and artists came together to discuss and decide the placement of the completed sculptures at the open grass space.
